Assemble at the airport for your flight(s) to Launceston, Tasmania’s second major city.
Upon your arrival, begin with a visit to Grindelwald Swiss Village. The village offers a unique sightseeing experience in Swiss style, complete with buildings featuring wide eaves, flower boxes, window shutters and balconies. Stunning panoramas surround the settlement, which is fringed with glassy lakes and offers views of the Tamar Valley. Continue on to the Cataract Gorge Reserve and walk on the historic suspension bridge over the South Esk River for stunning views of the unique natural formation.
After breakfast, head north for a guided tour of the award-winning Platypus House at Beauty Point. As Tasmanian platypuses and echidnas are endemic species that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world, Platypus House offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch the creatures in broad daylight. Thereafter, visit the House of Anvers where you can view the chocolate factory in action, as confectionery staff temper, mould and enrobe fine chocolate, truffles, pralines, fudge and more. Then proceed to Stanley Village and have a photo stop at the Highfield Historic Site for a historically accurate vision of a gentleman’s home and farm in the 1830s. Next, visit the top attraction in Stanley, The Nut. The Nut is the remains of an ancient volcanic plug with a large, mostly flat surface that can be navigated on foot. Take the walking track to get to the summit and enjoy magnificent 360-degree views of the township, the Bass Strait and the Rocky Cape National Park. What better way to take in the breath-taking views of this historical and picturesque region!
Note: A moderate level of fitness is required for the 15-20 minute trek to get to the summit of The Nut.
Start your day off with a visit to Ashgrove Cheese Farm. View the cheesemaking and maturing area, then taste and buy a range of cheese, which include exotic flavours of wild wasabi and native pepper berry. Afterwards, proceed to Sheffield, a town which proclaims itself the Mural Capital of Australia. There are over 60 huge murals around town along with an annual Mural Fest, where the winner’s masterpiece will be added to the collection. Thereafter, head to Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area and its jewel, the Cradle Mountain- Lake St Clair National Park. Immerse yourself in the picturesque landscape and abundance of wildlife. Then, take a walk along Dove Lake on one of Tasmania’s most unspoiled walkway.
This morning, head to Melita Honey Farm of some of Tasmania’s famous leatherwood honey. Then visit Trowunna Wildlife Park to see some of the native Tasmanian wildlife. The sanctuary was designed to cater to eco-tourists, adventurers, and families. See the animals roaming free, or time your visit with one of their many interactive daily tours and hand-feeding sessions. Continue on your journey to the picturesque historic town of Ross. Try the famous scallop pies at Bakery 31 and explore the town. Have a photo stop at the remarkable Ross Bridge, the 3rd oldest bridge still in use in Australia built by convicts in 1836. In the evening, experience a Wild Penguin Viewing where you can witness the fairy penguins embarking on their nightly ritual of returning ashore to their burrows.
Today, depart for Hobart, the capital and most populous city of the Tasmania. Stroll through Salamanca Place (open everyday) and explore the colourful stalls of the bustling Salamanca Market (open only on Sat). Then, visit Tas Live Abalone Factory for a sample taste of freshly cooked abalone and learn how abalone is processed. Thereafter, proceed to Mount Wellington. The 21-km drive to the summit passes through temperate rainforest to sub-alpine flora and glacial rock formations, ending in panoramic views of Hobart, Bruny Island, South Arm and the Tasman Peninsula.
Note: Mt Wellington will be replaced with Mt Nelson if it is closed due to any icy conditions or snow.
Enjoy the day at your leisure and explore the streets of Hobart at your own pace. Rich in art, culture and history, the city pulses with vibrancy. Alternatively, you may wish to join an optional tour to Port Arthur Historic Site or Bruny Island at your own expense.
We hope you enjoyed your vacation with our company and we look forward to seeing you again on your next trip.
Note: Breakfast box will be provided for early departure.
